WordPress Developer & Product Designer in Nairobi

Kanyi Mwangi, WordPress Developer & Product Designer

I help organisations turn messy problems into websites that actually work: designed with clarity, built with care, and structured so the team running them does not need a developer for every change.

Bridging Vision & Execution

I’m Kanyi, a WordPress developer and product designer with a decade of experience across design and engineering, the last four years of it deep in WordPress. That includes four years embedded in a live SaaS product serving customers across five language markets, where I owned the WordPress platform end to end.

I work at the intersection of design and development, which lets me own a project from the initial problem through to a working site in production. Designing in Figma and building in Gutenberg are usually two people with a handoff problem between them. Doing both means the design system and the block system end up being the same system.

How I Work

I’m not attached to a single job title, because the goal is always the same: solve the right problem, well.

Content model first. Before any design or code, I work out what the content actually is: the types, the relationships between them, and who edits what. In WordPress that decision determines everything downstream, including whether the right answer is a block theme, a custom theme, or a plugin.

Design and development together. I design in Figma and build in PHP, Gutenberg, and React, and I’ve built design systems from scratch. Designing for the medium the site is actually built in means less gets lost between what was drawn and what ships.

Built to be handed over. A build is finished when someone else can maintain it. That means block patterns the team can compose from, content structures that hold as the site grows, and documentation that does not assume a developer is still in the room.

Working with a team, not around one. I work directly with stakeholders, explain technical tradeoffs in plain language, and stay aligned throughout, not just at kickoff and handoff.
